Route Map

DAY 1

Nairobi-Sirimoni gate-Old Moses camp

Leave Nairobi city exactly 6 am and head off to Nanyuki. Briefly stop in Nanyuki Ibis Hotel for breakfast and shopping then proceed to  Sirimon Gate which will be the Starting point ,(2650m ASL) From here you hike 9Km up to the Old Moses Camp (3300m).
This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very fascinating as you hike through the four of the mountain vegetation belts – the tropical rain forest, bamboo jungle, rosewood and heather zones. These are also the areas where you are most likely to see animals and more importantly, the rarest species only found in Mount Kenya such as Mt Kenya Chameleon

DAY 2

Old Moses to Shiptons Camp
After breakfast, the hike starts around 0700hrs through the beautiful and unique Alpine Moorland Zone. Walking time today is 5-7 hours depending on individual fitness and stopping halfway for a picnic lunch. Arrive at Shiptons Camp (4200m), late afternoon, have dinner and stay overnight at Shiptons Camp

DAY 3

Point Lenana back to Old Moses

A pre-dawn (3:00 AM) start is essential when attempting Point Lenana (4985M). You are then most likely to be successful in reaching the summit as well as having the clearest view of the majestic scenery. If the sky is clear right across the southern part of Kenya, you will be able to view the peaks of Kilimanjaro above the clouds over 340 kilometers away. Afterward, descend to the Shiptons camp for breakfast and then to old Moses camp to start the journey back to Nairobi.

A brief stop at Nanyuki town then proceed to Nairobi
